Overview: Free Notepad (Notes) to count words, characters, and bytes as soon as you write!
This is a free Notepad app that counts words as soon as you write them. It is very helpful for writing with limits on the number of words or characters, such as reports, essays, columns, speech scripts, and novels.
Counting Features
The app counts the following as you type:
- Word count
- Character count (line breaks are not included)
- Sentence count
- Paragraph count
- Byte count
Example Word Count:

Example Character Count:

Main Functions
- Count “number of words” as soon as you write.
- Count “total number” of entered characters as soon as you write.
- Count “number of bytes” as soon as you write.
- Auto save of your notes.
- Undo / Redo note input.
- Share your notes with other apps.
- Convert your notes to “.txt” format.
- Delete your notes whenever you like.
- The input characters’ limit is based on your device, not the app.
Other Helpful Features
Auto Save
Auto save works when you move to a different screen (like pressing Home or Power), or when there are interruptions (like calls or alarms). Your note is also auto saved regularly while you are typing.
Direct Note Taking
Set “Get to note directly” to ON in the settings to open the note screen right away when you start the app. If set to OFF (default), the notes list screen is shown.
Find Your Notes
Enter keywords in the search bar to easily find your notes.
Color Label
You can use a “Color label” with 12 colors to organize your notes by purpose.
Share and Export
Share your notes with other apps. You can convert them to “.txt” format and save them on your device, or send them without saving.
Register Notes from Other Apps and Files
- Register notes directly from the “Share” menu of other apps.
- Register notes directly from text files (mail attachments, file managers, drives, etc.) using the “Open with” action.
Dark Theme (Night Mode)
Dark theme can be easier to see and may save battery on some screens.
Sort by
Sort your notes alphabetically and numerically.
Customize Font Size
Change the font size to make your screen easier to read.
Customize Display
Change the font size, or choose to display the update date and time.
Back up & Restore
Back up your content, data, and settings to your Google Account. You can restore this information to your current or a different Android phone.

You can customize the app with these settings:
- Get to note directly: ON / OFF
- Auto keyboard: ON / OFF
- Sort by: Title / Note / Date added / Last modified / Last opened / Characters / Bytes
- Font size: Tiny / Little / Small / Medium / Large / Big / Giant / Huge
- First cursor position: Beginning of sentence / End of sentence / Automatic restoration
- Counting: Count words (ON/OFF), Count sentences (ON/OFF), Count paragraphs (ON/OFF), Count bytes (ON/OFF)
- Display: Display the title (ON/OFF), Display the updated date and time (ON/OFF)
- Language: English / Japanese / Korean / Chinese (Simplified) / Chinese (Traditional) / Indonesian
- Theme: Light / Dark / System default
- Back up & restore
- Specify characters and lines: ON / OFF
